This story didn't scare me much, just disturbed me. It was night and Reimi and Narumi are sleeping. The source of the curse is a skull but it's lost.

Plus the mother believes that the curse is actually a disease that can be cured by modern medicine when it isn't. Reimi herself actually hates being treated like a child by her mother and believes that it's her fault that they were in a car accident (she's right). The mother, being a delusional and corrupt individual she is obviously blamed Narumi for 'ruining Reimi's pretty face' when it was actually her own fault for provoking Narumi and causing her to crash their car. She got part of her face sliced off with a road sign. Narumi swerved and they landed in a ditch. Narumi, who was driving, turned around to shout 'What did you say?' and they nearly hit a truck. When Narumi and Reimi's mother called Narumi ugly. She looks like one of those people who 'clean up nicely' if they alter their appearances with makeup. She looked better when she wore her plaid pajamas and when she got a few years older. Yeah, Narumi doesn't look that attractive but I wouldn't consider her butt ugly. She's indifferent to her older daughter, Narumi because she's 'too ugly'. I'm 20 years old and neither of my parents treat me like a kid. She constantly infantilizes the now 20-year-old Reimi who is the youngest child and actually loved her the most when she was 2. The mother is a very corrupt and delusional individual. His wife is not afflicted with the curse though.

If you're 17, you have 17 layers of skin for example. The curse involves having layers of skin depending on age so the cursed person has no internal organs, just layers of skin. Soya, who researched and studied a cursed burial ground died because of the curse and the curse gets passed onto his daughters, Narumi and Reimi. There are a lot of parents out there who compulsively treat their now adult sons/daughters like children and when they resist and protest that they're adults, the parents would play the victim. I like that this story raises awareness about bad parenting, corrupt parents, and parental favoritism as well as infantilization. Honestly, Junji Ito's one of the best manga artists ever.
